August 2012
The August photo is of Dubrey's Trucking located at the corner of Chapel Street and "Old" Main Street in Cherry Valley.

Although the mill on the right sill stands, all the buildings on the left are now gone. The brick building shown here on the left collapsed in the early 1980's.
This corner is the location of the new church.

The only correct answer was: Lorraine J.

July 2012

For the July photo we had a few guesses that this was Irish's Mobil Station on South Main Street, and people were close on that. This was Lyon's Gulf Station, which was located across the street from where the Mobil station was, where the Cumberland Farms is currently  located.

The only correct guess was from: Mike Repekta

June 2012

The June photo showed the mill at the corner of "Old" Main Street and Chapel Street in Cherry Valley. Underneath the current brown metal siding still sits this wooden mill, the oldest textile mill still standing in Leicester, having been built in 1824.

May 2012

The May photo is of the old beacon Pharmacy in Leicester Center, in the late 1960's before these buildings were torn down to build the new pharmacy building. We did an easier one this month since the last two were tough.

April 2012

There were no correct guesses

The April photo is of the Olney Woolen Mill in Cherry Valley. Although there had been two pre-industrial mills at this site, this particular mill was built around 1820 and significantly expanded in 1874 when purchased by George Olney.
This was destroyed by fire in 1942 but the remnants and foundations are still visible between Main Street and Towtaid Park.

March 2012

No correct guesses

The March photo shows the Leicester High School Class of 1935 in Smith Hall of Leicester Academy. Examining a picture of the 3rd (and last) Academy building, the four long windows with arched tops behind the students are visible on the second floor on the front of the academy.
The commission does not normally do indoor photos, but this one was interesting as this is the only known photo taken inside of Leicester Academy, which was destroyed by fire in 1939. We had a few guesses that it was inside the current town hall and one that it was inside the town hall that burned in 1935.

February  2012

Flavorseal on Main Street in Cherry Valley. Destroyed by fire in the 1950's, it was located where the gas station is next to Eller's Restaurant, with the ell on the left extending to the now closed bar.

Thanks for all who continued to view the photo contest on the new site. Those who answered correctly were:
