The Town of Leicester is seeking to fill vacancies on several of its public boards and commissions, including:

Conservation Commission

Mission: The Conservation Commission administers the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, the Rivers Protection Act and related regulations as well as the Town of Leicester Wetland Bylaws and Regulations. The purpose of these Bylaws and Regulations is to protect the wetlands, related water resources and adjoining land areas (buffer zones) in Leicester. To learn more, click here. Members are appointed by the Select Board for 3-year terms. The Commission meets once a month on the 2nd Wednesday, at 6:30pm in Leicester Town Hall. Orientation is available for volunteers interested in learning the basics on the roles and responsibilities of a conservation commissioner and the requirements of the Wetlands Protection Act.

Zoning Board of Appeals

The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) reviews applications for Special Permits, Variances, and certain Appeals. The ZBA reviews Special Permit applications for non-conforming uses and structures, signs, uses allowed by Special Permit in the R1, R2, SA, I, and BI-A districts (except where specifically delegated to the Planning Board), Wireless Communications Facilities (Cell Towers), Water Resource Protection Overlay Special Permits, Private Kennels (except in BR-1), and Livestock.

Leicester Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC)

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may occur where they live.

CERT trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills, such as:

  • Fire safety
  • Light search and rescue
  • Team organization
  • Disaster medical operations
